Tomorrow morning, I'll be testifying at the Senate Foreign Relations Committee's hearings on the foreign policy implications of sovereign wealth funds.  A sneak preview:  there aren't a lot of foreign policy implications, except for the massive crimp sovereign funds impose on efforts at democracy promotion.  I anticipate rivers of sweat pouring down my face as the Senators grill me -- but this will be due to the horrific heat that's been plaguing the nation's capital and killing the AC in half of the rooms in my hotel.  The hearings are open to the public, so I hereby call on all DC fans of danieldrezner.com to mobilize.  I fully expect to hear shouts of "Yes he can!" right before I provide my testimony.  UPDATE:  Hey, that was fun!!  I'll provide an update on the experience later tonight, for the three of you that care.

Hey, congrats! I testified

Hey, congrats! I testified three times before House (not Senate) committees back in 1998. Maybe Reps are more mellow than Senators, but I never felt 'grilled'. Of course, all three panels were on Y2K information technology issues, so they may have just decided to keep their mouthes closed rather than, as the saying goes, 'remove all doubt'. If I still lived in DC, I'd come to give you support. ..bruce..

Do you anticipate getting

Do you anticipate getting some words in edgewise while Senator Biden questions you?

Let us know how many Senators

Let us know how many Senators show up. My guess is three to five.

If you have time for a post-trial, er, post-hearing lunch in one of the elegant Senate restaurants, it might help you form an opinion on a truly critical issue, whether the Senate should follow the House in privatizing its food service. If you're in a hurry tomorrow, the fastest service is probably at a small self-service outlet a few floors down from Foreign Relations and down the hall in the Hart Building. Just ask where you can find the "Plastic Palace."
