Last week I communicated to Senator Obama and his presidential campaign my firm intention to remain in the United States Senate, where I believe I am best equipped to serve the people of Virginia and this country. Under no circumstances will I be a candidate for Vice President. My reaction:
Why? Admittedly, I was never a big fan of Webb. When I testified at the Senate Foreign Relations committee, however, my Webbophobia kicked up a notch. He wasn't flying off the handle or anything like that -- he was just bound and determined not to hear the answer I was giving him at one point. [Why do you care who Obama picks?--ed. Because I think he's very likely to win, which means his VP pick will immediately be a party leader, and I'd like to see a pick that doesn't make Richard Gephardt look like a free trader.]
Dan,
I can understand your disagreements with (and personal dislike of) Sen. James Webb. Frankly, I think today's announcement is just posturing on the part of Virginia's junior senator. Sen. Barak Obama has until the middle of August to pick a running mate and none of the usual suspects want to appear overly each to accept the number too spot on the ticket.
But the video clip of Steve Carrell singing "Age of Aquarius" puzzles me. I don't get that part.
Dan:
You do know that Sen. Webb voted for the Peru FTA, right?
I forgot to add, if one wanted to be mean, one could take your advice as concern trolling. I am sure Republicans didn't take into account Democrats feelings over Dick Cheney.
