The implicit message in Steve Walt's ten commandments for foreign policy wonks is that if you dare to violate any of these commandments, the Council on Foreign Relations Henry Kissinger God will strike you down with a mark and brand you for life as unworthy of wonkdom.
Some of Walt's commandments hold, and some of them don't (who's getting pilloried on Cuba nowadays?), but there's an important corollary to these commandments that needs to be highlighted:
If thou hast deviated from the consensus of the foreign policy community, thou shalt go to the tallest mountain, and rend one's clothing, and scream from the top of thine lungs like Charlton Heston in Planet of the Apes/Soylent Green, and declare that the mark of transgression itself is proof that thou must be right.

yup. the cold civil war rages on...
...between the zionists, who have the upper hand for the time being... and the looters, who are gaining rapidly and who will eventually cripple zionist efforts... and then there's the old line americans, who see the peak oil handwriting on the wall and who have more-or-less given up.
seeing as how peak oil was the triggering motive for the PNAC/AEI/exxon 9/11 oil and land acquisition project, nobody can tell the truth about anything, especially in view of the fact that the zionist faction are gatekeepers of the main media.
so everything's gridlocked in the status quo, which will gradually deteriorate until the cold civil war goes hot.
with any luck at all, the surviving elites will have looted enough by then to hire "contractors" to set up little enclaves ---possibly including israel... doubtful, but possible--- in which they can hide out until the peak oil dust settles... which ought to take a few decades, but by then, sea level rise will have become a problem.
of course, sea level rise was the zionists' long-term motive for the aforementioned PNAC/AEI/exxon 9/11 oil and land acquisition project... seeing as how israel must be secured from sea level rise (by grabbing palestinian high ground in the west bank) before israel's proxy armies run out of gas.
.
the whole "benevolent global hegemony"/PNAC/AEI/exxon 9/11 oil and land acquisition project is so ludicrous that there's about a 90% probability that it's nothing more than cover for the biggest looting operation in history.
at this point, it would probably be useful to think about...
...obama's potential role in defusing black unrest, and sotomayer's potential role in defusing hispanic unrest...
...not to mention the fact that haim saban bought the biggest spanish-language television network in the US.
...all of which should contribute to efforts to prolong the agony.
